Description
FlexDrive™ 10 Speed is a plug-in module made for GM's refreshed 10-speed trucks and SUVs. One OBD-II plug does two jobs: it keeps DFM (AFM) off so your V8 runs on all 8 cylinders, and it turns Auto Start/Stop off every time you start the truck.
- Helps protect your lifters from constant on and off switching
- Engine keeps running at red lights, no restart jolt
- No tune, no reflash, no parts removed
- Unplug any time and the truck goes back to stock

How it works
When you cruise with a light foot, the truck's computer tells DFM to shut cylinders off and turn them back on, over and over on every drive. FlexDrive™ plugs into the OBD-II port and keeps the engine on all 8 cylinders, so the deactivation lifters are never told to switch.
It also turns Auto Start/Stop off every time you start the truck. Same result as pressing the "A" button yourself, done for you automatically.
If the truck will sit unused for more than a few days, unplug FlexDrive, like any OBD-II accessory. Unplug it before emissions inspections or dealer visits.

“Works great on my 2011 GMC Sierra 1500. Great customer service too!”
“Seamless, no error codes, just plug n forget. The truck feels so much better, and since mine is getting up there in terms of mileage, that's when I decided I'm not waiting for the AFM system to fail. The AFM system doesn't really help whenever you need a little bit of power getting up a small grade, it would switch to V8 anyways. Plus the shudder you just feel in your bum whenever you're trying to accelerate is now gone.”
“As soon as I plugged it in I felt a difference in my truck, runs better. You don't feel the hard shifting from V8 to V4 and you can feel that you have more power behind the gas pedal. My truck only has 80,000 km and it's a 2016, but I heard if you don't chip it, around 200,000 you have major engine problems.”
“Works like it's supposed to! Immediate fix in my 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500 5.3L V8. Prevents the onboard computer from toggling the engine from V8 to V4, causing undue stress to the engine and making driving less enjoyable frankly. It's a true plug-and-play device that plugs into the diagnostic port under the dash and you're in business. Can't recommend enough.”
“Works as it should. Does not drain the battery. Would buy again! If you are questioning buying this… buy it! You won't regret it.”
“Worked great on my 2008 Silverado 5.3, improved mpg from 9 mpg to 16 mpg and no more annoying DOD.”

Tired of fighting your own truck on every drive?
On the newer Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe, Suburban and Yukon, the engine shuts off at every red light. The small A button on the dash turns it off, but it resets the moment you start the truck again. There's no permanent off switch from the factory.
Behind the scenes, a second system runs on every drive. It's called DFM, GM's newer version of AFM. Instead of just switching between 8 and 4 cylinders, DFM can shut down anywhere from 1 to 7 cylinders and bring them back, in up to 17 patterns, making that call about 80 times a second. That's a lot of work for your lifters, all day long, to save around 1 MPG.
FlexDrive™ 10 Speed turns both off. Two jobs, one plug, every drive.
Factory vs. With FlexDrive™ 10 Speed
- ✕Engine shuts off at every red light
- ✕The A button resets every time you start the truck
- ✕DFM keeps switching cylinders off and on, every drive
- ✕Lifters cycle with every single switch
- ✕Owners drive in manual or Tow/Haul just to avoid it
- ✓Engine keeps running at lights and stops
- ✓Auto Start/Stop turns off by itself, every start
- ✓DFM stays off, all 8 cylinders stay on
- ✓Deactivation lifters are never told to switch
- ✓Just drive in Drive, nothing to remember
Your truck has DFM. And it never stops switching.
AFM switched a V8 between 8 and 4 cylinders. DFM, on the 5.3L (L84) and 6.2L (L87), can shut off anywhere from 1 to 7 cylinders in up to 17 patterns, deciding about 80 times every second.
It shuts cylinders off under light load
When you cruise with a light foot, the truck's computer turns some cylinders off to save around 1 MPG, then turns them back on. Again and again, on every drive.
Special lifters make it happen
To shut a cylinder's valve, its lifter collapses on command using a small spring-loaded locking pin that unlocks and locks again with every switch.
All that switching is where wear starts
It's how the system was designed to work, so regular maintenance can't stop it. When a pin wears, a lifter can stick. It may start as a tick at idle and turn into a misfire.
FlexDrive™ stops the switching
With DFM kept off, the engine stays on all 8 cylinders and those lifters are never told to switch. FlexDrive™ helps prevent future wear. It does not repair damage that has already happened.
A common quote range for lifter and cam work on the 5.3L and 6.2L. The engine has to come apart, and the truck can sit in the shop for days.
Keeps DFM off and turns Auto Start/Stop off from your very next start. Plug it in and forget about it.
Repair costs vary by shop and by how much damage there is. FlexDrive™ helps prevent wear; it is not a repair.
Find the port. Plug it in. Start the truck.
No tools, no app, no tuning and no trip to the shop. It works from your very next start.
Find your OBD-II port
It's a 16-pin port under the dash on the driver's side, usually right above the pedals. Every one of these trucks has one.
Line it up and plug it in
Push the FlexDrive™ 10 Speed straight into the port. No wiring, no cutting, no programming and nothing to take apart.
Start the truck. Light on.
The LED lights up to confirm it's working. DFM and Auto Start/Stop stay off, from the very first start and every one after.

Frequently asked questions
Will it fit my truck?
It fits the 2022.5 to 2026 Silverado 1500 and Sierra 1500 (the refreshed trucks with the large horizontal center screen) and the 2021 to 2024 Tahoe, Suburban, Yukon and Yukon XL with the 5.3L or 6.2L V8. Use the Fitment Check above to confirm your exact year and engine.
My truck is a 2021 or older Silverado or Sierra. Which FlexDrive do I need?
Those trucks use the original FlexDrive™ AFM/DFM Disabler, not the 10 Speed. The original fits 80+ GM models from about 2004 to 2022. The 10 Speed is made specifically for GM's refreshed 10-speed trucks and SUVs.
Do I have to press anything after it's plugged in?
No. Plug it in once. DFM stays off and Auto Start/Stop turns off by itself every time you start the truck, so you don't have to think about either one again.
Does it tune or reprogram my truck?
No. It doesn't tune, flash or reprogram the factory computer, and nothing on the truck is permanently changed. Unplug it any time and the truck goes right back to factory behavior.
My engine already ticks. Will this fix it?
No. FlexDrive™ helps prevent future DFM wear by stopping the switching that causes it, but it can't undo damage that has already happened. If you already hear a tick or feel a misfire, have the truck inspected first.
What about gas mileage?
Expect around 1 MPG less, because the engine stays on all 8 cylinders. That's roughly what DFM was saving to begin with. Most owners see it as a fair trade compared with a lifter repair that can cost thousands.
My 5.3L never shuts off at lights. Is something wrong?
Probably not. During the chip shortage, GM built some 2021 and 2022 5.3L trucks without DFM and without Auto Start/Stop. Those trucks have nothing for FlexDrive™ to turn off, so the 10 Speed isn't the right fit. Check your window sticker or ask your dealer, or message us with your VIN and we'll help you check.
Is my truck AFM or DFM?
Every vehicle on the 10 Speed fitment list uses DFM, GM's newer version of AFM. Instead of only switching between 8 and 4 cylinders, DFM can shut off anywhere from 1 to 7 cylinders in up to 17 patterns.
Does it work on the Escalade, the 2.7L or a diesel?
No. The 10 Speed supports only the 5.3L and 6.2L V8 in the six vehicles listed above. The Escalade, the 2.7L TurboMax and the diesels are not supported.
Will the dealer know, or will it affect my warranty?
FlexDrive™ doesn't tune, flash or reprogram the factory computer, and when it's unplugged the truck works exactly as it did from the factory. In the US, a dealer generally can't void your whole warranty just because you used an aftermarket accessory. We still recommend unplugging it before you drop the truck off for service and plugging it back in afterwards.
Do I still need to press the Auto Start/Stop button?
No. FlexDrive™ turns Auto Start/Stop off for you on every start, the same as pressing the A button yourself. If you ever want it back the way GM built it, just unplug it.
Can I still use Tow/Haul or drive normally?
Yes. Drive the truck the way you always do. You no longer need to sit in manual or Tow/Haul mode just to keep DFM from switching, because DFM is already off.
What's in the box?
Your FlexDrive™ 10 Speed module and the free FlexDrive Owner's Guide eBook. With Buy 2 or Buy 3 you also get a free OBD-II extension cable.
What if it's not right for me?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee, and a 1-Year Extended Warranty is available in the cart. If it's not right for your truck, send us a message and we'll take care of it. We reply within 24 hours.
